WEST CHICAGO— U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Naperville, celebrated Veterans Day Wednesday by helping distribute goods to veterans at the Interfaith Food Pantry Veterans Day distribution.
According to a news release from Underwood’s office, the Interfaith Food Pantry in Aurora is one of the largest food pantries in northern Illinois�and is�dedicated to ending hunger in the community.�
During the event, Underwood�joined community�members to help distribute meals to Illinois veterans.�
“Veterans have�sacrificed so much in service to our country,�and it’s up to all of us to�ensure they have the resources�they need to thrive in our community, especially during a pandemic,”�Underwood stated.�“I was honored to join leaders from the Interfaith Food Pantry�this Veterans Day�to support�the heroes�in our community.”���
Underwood and outgoing State Rep. Jim Oberweis, R-Sugar Grove, remain locked in a tight race for Illinois’ 14th Congressional District.
With 2,910 additional votes counted in the Will County portion of the district, Underwood is ahead of Oberweis 200,037 to 195,749, unofficial results show. Underwood lives in the Will County portion of Naperville.
With that 4,288-vote advantage, Underwood has 50.54% of the vote so far, while Oberweis has 49.46%.
The race remains too close to call.
