Jeanette Ward on Thursday afternoon conceded to Karina Villa in the race for the Illinois Senate District 25 seat.
"I just called Karina Villa today to extend my congratulations and wish her well as Illinois’ new State Senator in the 25th District," Ward states in a Facebook post.
According to the latest results from Tuesday’s election, Villa received 57,967 votes, or 50.6% of the vote and Ward received 56,461 votes, or 49.34% of the vote.
Villa, D-West Chicago, who currently represents the 49th district, ran against Ward, a former U-46 School Board member. The current occupant of the seat, State Sen. Jim Oberweis, is running for the 14th Congressional District, leaving an opening between two candidates from West Chicago.
The district encompasses all or some of the communities of Aurora, Bartlett, Batavia, Campton Hills, Elburn, Geneva, Montgomery, Naperville, North Aurora, Oswego, Plano, South Elgin, St. Charles, Sugar Grove, Warrenville, Wayne, West Chicago and Yorkville.
