Karina Villa holds a 18-vote lead over Jeanette Ward in the race for the Illinois Senate District 25 seat.
According to unofficial results, Villa received 55,359 votes, or 50.01% of the vote, compared to Ward, who received 55,341 votes, or 49.99% of the vote.
Villa, D-West Chicago, who currently represents the 49th district, is running against Ward, a former U-46 School Board member. The current occupant of the seat, Jim Oberweis, is running for the 14th Congressional District, leaving an opening between two candidates from West Chicago.
The district encompasses all or some of the communities of Aurora, Bartlett, Batavia, Campton Hills, Elburn, Geneva, Montgomery, Naperville, North Aurora, Oswego, Plano, South Elgin, St. Charles, Sugar Grove, Warrenville, Wayne, West Chicago and Yorkville.
