PEORIA (HOI) — Illinois Governor JB Pritzker spent most of Monday in Peoria, with visits to a local barber shop and Jump Simulation. While at Jump, Pritzker held his daily COVID-19 briefing for the state, where he delivered somber news.

"Cases, positivity, and hospitalizations are all rising across the state of Illinois, and we have got to reverse the trend and slow the spread of the virus," said the governor.

Region 2, Peoria’s region, is the best performing in state, but the positivity rate is still a concerning 7.2 percent.

"This is not over, there seems to be a COVID storm on the rise, and we have to get prepared…please Illinois, mask up, and we’ll get through all of this and through to the other side," said Pritzker.

Earlier in the day, Pritzker paid a visit to Prestige Barber Shop in downtown Peoria. The business, which once had two locations, had to close their Northwoods Mall shop because of COVID-19.

The Business Interruption Grant they received allowed them to maintain their downtown shop. Owner Jorell Glass says the $10,000 grant will help them navigate this new environment.

"Walk-ins were major…but now since COVID-19, its really a liability, so I’m very careful with the people that we deal with," said Glass.

The governor says businesses can now apply for a second wave of Business Interruption Grants, but the state will prioritize that are in regions with stricter COVID-19 mitigations.
