Will County Democrats focus on pandemic, combat ‘scare tactics’ as election nears

She added that even the most "die-hard partisan voters realize that leadership matters more than party affiliation," though she said she refuses to predict electoral outcomes until the votes are counted.

That’s perhaps why the local party has made efforts to engage different groups of voters, and even future voters, to bring them under an already wide tent.

During a "Get Out the Vote" event on Saturday, Gruenberg was busy making connections between volunteers and campaigns. Among the pool of volunteers were members of the Plainfield South High School Democrats.

Delaney O’Sullivan, 16, who chairs the organization, said she’s seen a surge in interest in politics among her peers recently over issues like climate activism and anti-racist protests.

"I think the past six months or so, I’ve seen this giant shift from me being the weird political girl, to all of my classmates (getting involved)," she said.
