Carlinville mayor and former state lawmaker Deanna Demuzio has died.

She entered political life when she was appointed to fill the vacancy left by the death of her husband, longtime state senator Vince Demuzio. Deanna Demuzio served in the Senate from 2004 to 2010.

In 2013, she was elected mayor of Carlinville and in her second term when she passed away Tuesday. The Carlinville City Council will meet later this week to select an acting mayor to serve out the remainder of her term, which expires next May.
