MARION (WSIL) — COVID-19 and previous shutdowns continue put financial strain on local residents.

The Salvation Army of Southern Illinois says they’ve seen an increase of people needing utility assistance in recent weeks.

Social Services Manager, Cami Horn says they’re receiving numerous calls from residents who’s water and electric services have been disconnected.

"It’s really important if they can to reach out to us or other agencies before they’re disconnected because their are some options that we can help with before that disconnection happens and then we also have some advocacy connections that we can make at the state level," says Horn.

Horn says they will help as much as they can and it’s an easier process before the utilities are shut off. You can contact the Salvation Army of Southern Illinois at (618) 993-5854.
