State coalition urges telehealth protection

A state health coalition is urging legislators to create protective measures for telehealth services beyond the pandemic.

The Coalition to Protect Our Telehealth is asking that such “virtual” visits — which rose dramatically amid COVID-19 shutdowns — continue to be a priority.

“Absent action from the Illinois General Assembly, providers and professionals will not have the certainty they need to continue to invest in and utilize new care delivery tools and Illinois residents will abruptly lose access to the telehealth services they have relied on during the pandemic,” according to a statement from the coalition.

The group said legislation should allow for telehealth use without proof of hardship or access barriers, not limit the use of in-person services, and not place condition limitations or requirements on telehealth services.
