“My staff has been working hard on meeting the social and emotional needs of students, and we have collected student survey data the last several years and have started to analyze some needs. Some things have risen to the top relating to cultural pieces, and racism and gender identity,” Harris said. “It’s really about culture and recognizing differences in people and how to approach that and handle it. And with this position, we’re going to look at all aspects of our organization — curriculum, relations, staffing, policy, everything.”
