It’s project time for the Illinois Nutrient Research Education Council and there are a number of efforts throughout the state under consideration. They look for new research projects each year in order to help move closer to their missions.
N-REC Executive Director Julie Armstrong says they work closely with the Illinois Nutrient loss Reduction Strategy to help vet some of the practices outlined in that strategy, and also to help identify other ways to manage nutrients. This year they have 49 proposals.

NREC has been in business since 2012 and was created by state statute. Its work is funded by a 75-cent per ton assessment on bulk fertilizer sold in Illinois. Decisions on 2020 projects will be made in August.
