DIXON – The Dixon City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Monday allowing businesses to serve cocktails-to-go.
Earlier this month, the governor signed into law legislation that allows restaurants and bars to serve cocktails-to-go to help with financial hardship in the wake of COVID-19 challenges.
Drinks will be available only in pick-up and delivery orders, and must be served in a sealed container with a tamper-proof lid. Mixed drinks must be stored in a trunk or other compartment inaccessible to drivers.
Drinks also must be labeled with information including the cocktail or mixed drink ingredients, type, and name of alcohol; the name, license number, and address of the retail licensee that filled the original container and sold the product and the date sold; the volume of the cocktail or mixed drink in the sealed container; and that the sealed container was filled less than 7 days before the date of sale.
It applies only to businesses with liquor licenses, and not for third-party delivery services, including DoorDash and GrubHub.
The Sterling City Council approved a cocktails-to-go ordinance late last month, and the Rock Falls City Council didn’t have enough votes to go forward with a second reading of a similar ordinance.
