A Black Lives Matter protest will take place at the Illinois Capitol Building (Lincoln statue) at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

There is also a BLM protest scheduled for Taylorville at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The events aren’t being organized by BLM Springfield, which put on Sunday’s procession that attracted 3,000 people.

Monday’s BLM protest, which attracted 1,000 to 1,500 people, was organized by Allaijah Davis, 15, of Lanphier High; Ariona Fairlee, 16, who attends Southeast High; and Nykeyla Henderson, 17, also a student at Lanphier. They are also not behind Wednesday’s protest.

Both Sunday’s vehicle procession and Monday’s protest were peaceful and drew the praise of city leaders.

A statement from BLM Springfield stated that “we hope they are extremely successful events. We hope this and all other events like it help force open the door for the change that we need.”
