Kankakee Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong took a few moments to talk about the current state of America before dealing with city issues at the Kankakee City Council meeting (Monday). She said this matter with George Floyd of Minneapolis “is not just a black issue, but an American issue.”

The Mayor said that Floyd was simply the latest incident of a black man being killed at the hands of a white police officer. The Daily-Journal reported, the mayor said these repeated cycles of violence will call for real leadership, adding ‘there’s a lack of regard for our black men.’ She praised the weekend marches for being law-abiding and respectful.
