State Week: Pritzker Checking Boxes For Progressives

Gov. J.B. Pritzker spent his second week in office taking actions to signal his support of progressive causes.

He signed executive orders demanding reviews — of state health insurance plans to ensure access to abortion, and of state spending on immigrant welcome centers — and joining the U.S. Climate Alliance.

Pritzker also appeared with state Treasurer Michael Frerichs to announce a plan to help furloughed federal workers in Illinois. (Note that this week’s episode of State Week was recorded just before President Trump announced he would temporarily re-open the government.)

The panel also discusses the latest death from Legionnaire’s Disease at an Illinois veterans’ home — this time in Manteno.

Sean Crawford hosts with regular panelists Charlie Wheeler, Brian Mackey and Daisy Contreras, and guest John O’Connor of The Associated Press.
