With less than a month left before the election, Democratic candidate in the 14th Congressional District Lauren Underwood will be finishing the last leg of her campaign in a new office in downtown Woodstock, 129 E. Van Buren St.
Campaign spokeswoman Andra Belknap said Underwood’s team moved from its original office on Calhoun Street in Woodstock because it needed a larger space. Underwood – who has campaigned for affordable healthcare, amongst other reform – challenges incumbent Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-Plano.
“Let [this office] be the anchor that we use to spread this message across the northern part of the Illinois 14th District,” Underwood said during a grand opening event on Sunday.
A recent New York Times and Siena College poll of 501 people showed 47 percent of those surveyed supported Hultgren, 43 percent supported Underwood and 10 percent were undecided.
“We’re so close to bringing this home but we are not winning yet so how do we win?” Underwood asked. “We win when each of you continue to do the work knocking on doors and making calls and sending texts and owning your cul-de-sac and talking to your neighbors and literally calling your girlfriend and making sure they go out and vote.”
DeKalb County Board Chairman Jack Franks said Underwood is a candidate that comes along once in a generation.
“Lauren is the lynchpin to taking back the U.S. Congress and putting a stop to the inanity of our crazy commander in chief,” Franks said. “She must win. When Lauren wins, our entire country wins and this is not hyperbole.”
