14th Congressional District candidate Underwood raises $2M in 3rd quarter

With a little less than a month before the Nov. 6 election, 14th Congressional District candidate Lauren Underwood announced that her campaign has raised more than $2 million in the third filing quarter of 2018.

The Democrat said that in the past two filing quarters she has outraised her opponent, incumbent Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-Plano, and she has momentum in the race, according to a news release sent Tuesday.

"The excitement about our campaign is palpable – our voters began heading to their polling places as soon as early voting began,” Underwood said in the release. “I’m so thankful to the thousands of people across our community who have invested in this race. It’s clear that voters in the 14th are ready for real representation in Congress, and we have the resources we need to win in November."

Underwood said she will post her full third quarter filing with the Federal Election Commission on Monday.

During the second quarter, which ran from April 1 to June 30, Underwood’s campaign committee collected more than $538,000, according to data reported to the Federal Election Commission. That left her with about $651,885 at the end of the second quarter.

In contrast, Hultgren’s committee collected about $388,000, bringing his total cash on hand to more than $1 million at the end of the second quarter.

Between Jan. 1 and March 31, Underwood – who ran against six Democratic candidates in the March primary election – raised about $465,000.

Hultgren, meanwhile, collected about $360,000.
