SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill) issued the statement below following the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the final two lanes of Route 29. The project, which began 23 years ago, increased Route 29 from two lanes to four for safer and faster travel between Sangamon and Christian counties. It is estimated over 3,000 workers travel between Christian and Sangamon counties every day.
“A lot of people have waited a long time to see this day.
“We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the hard work and leadership of people like Vince and Deanna Demuzio, Gary Hannig, Sam McCann and numerous Christian County grassroots activists and advocates.
“Now, thanks to all those efforts, thousands of workers and families will have safer and more efficient travel to and from their jobs and homes. This is a long-overdue quality of life issue that will improve safety and economic development for Central Illinois.”
