SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — State lawmakers want to help you see all of the fees included in your utility bills.

The Illinois House unanimously passed a bill Thursday to require the state to create an online portal detailing utility charges to consumers, separate from delivery and supply charges.

The website should include the statutory authority for charges remitted to the state or retained by utility companies, the amount collected each year and a detailed accounting of how funds are spent.

"It requires the Illinois Commerce Commission to have a website that would identify each line item on your utility bill," said Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton). "So when people get their bill, they understand just what the money is going for."

Severin has frequently called for full transparency of utility prices in Illinois.

House Bill 5524 now moves to the Senate for further consideration.
