It was at the Laura Lee Fellowship House Tuesday (March 31st) afternoon that Congresswoman Robin Kelly stopped by for a special endorsement party for 104th District State Rep Democratic candidate Mary Catherine Roberson.  Before anyone could ask her, Kelly made it known that she’s doing just fine since falling short in bid for the Democratic nod for U.S. Senate; and plans to make the last nine months of her congressional term very worthwhile.

And one thing she’s doing is officially endorsing Roberson to serve in Springfield.  Kelly stated during her speech, and reflected to CIMG afterwards, that whenever she is down here talking to constituents, it’s obvious to Kelly that she’s not the main attraction, but Mary Catherine Roberson is.

AUDIO: People always say, “Mary Catherine! Mary Catherine!”  She’s the superstar, definitely, in this area; and I respect that so much.  She so loves the area she was born and raised in, and wants to give back.  And that reflects in her work every day.

Also there to offer her support was Former State Senator Stacy Bennett.  She says her husband,  the Late Senator Scott Bennett, definitely saw something in Mary Catherine Roberson a handful of  years ago.

AUDIO: Here’s this woman with two babies, but she’s still doing everything.  And she’s so impassioned and genuine.  It was never about ‘I want to rise the ladder and climb the ladder and do these things.’  She cared about the issues in Danville and was out there doing the work.  Not just talking about it, but out there doing the work.

Roberson herself also recalled those early days with Senator Scott Bennett.

AUDIO: I reached out to him to invite him to be in a solidarity march with us.  And he spoke.  And from then on, he started bridging me into this official kind of political space that was still new to me.  I was more on the grass roots side.  So his faith in me has really given me the strength to step from beyond grass roots organizing, and into these actual political spaces, into being a true public servant.

In the November election, Roberson will be facing GOP 104th District State Rep Incumbent Brandun Schweizer.
