State Sen. Patrick Joyce is advancing legislation aimed at speeding up safety reviews at hazardous intersections on state roads in Will County. Senate Bill 3275 would require the Illinois Department of Transportation, working with local agencies, to identify and conduct safety assessments at the 10 most dangerous state-controlled intersections south of Interstate 80 in Will County.
The measure seeks to address delays municipalities and counties face when requesting IDOT reviews. The assessments would produce a report to the Illinois General Assembly outlining potential improvements such as design changes, traffic control adjustments and other safety measures.
Joyce introduced the bill following fatal crashes in the 40th Senate District and concerns from residents and local officials about dangerous intersections. The legislation passed the Senate Transportation Committee Tuesday and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
