GALESBURG, Illinois – A Galesburg small business has been awarded $56,432 in grant money to promote innovation, according to State Sen. Mike Halpin.

The funding, announced Tuesday, Feb. 10, was awarded to Lux Blox LLC through the Illinois Innovation Voucher Program. The program connects small businesses with the state’s universities and research institutions to pursue research and development projects. These competitive awards are up to $75,000.

“With the right resources, Western Illinois communities can produce competitive products that bring business to our region,” Mr. Halpin, a Rock Island Democrat, said in a news release announcing the award. “Innovation grants lift up small businesses and put tax dollars to good use.”

Lux Blox, located in Mr. Halpin’s 36th Senate District, produces educational and interactive toys to get children interested in STEM. Its products are manufactured in the United States and are used in classrooms worldwide.
