State Senate District 56 candidate Marsie Geldert-Murphey announces Listening Tour dates

Political newcomer and Democratic candidate Marsie Geldert-Murphey is kicking off a listening tour with residents of Illinois State Senate District 56.

The “Wide Awake Listening Tour” is a chance for coffee and conversation with residents about the direction of the 56th District and what is at stake in the next election.

Geldert-Murphy will be at the following locations this week:

  • 12 Noon Tuesday, Jan. 6: Maeva’s Coffee, 1320 Milton Rd., Alton
  • 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8: Verona Coffee Company, 101 E. Main, Collinsville
  • 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan 11: Goshen Coffee, 1 Junction Dr., Glen Carbon

About Marsie Geldert-Murphey:

With a record of volunteerism, and entrepreneurship in the Metro East and downstate Illinois, she has a deep commitment to improving infrastructure and economic opportunity, education, and addressing healthcare disparities. Geldert-Murphey is running to bring practical, hard-working, and proactive leadership to Springfield.

A Democrat, Geldert-Murphey is a civil engineer who began her career on the construction of the Clark Bridge in Alton, she designed portions of the Stan Musial and I-270 over Chain of Rocks bridges and designed the foundations for the Confluence Tower in Hartford.

She is the past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Geldert-Murphey has championed infrastructure resiliency leading the passage of ASCE 73, a groundbreaking performance-based standard and policies that strengthen local economies and opportunities for workers. Her leadership has resulted in multiple awards, recognition and interviews on the national and regional level. She is a sought after expert on civil engineering and community development.

Geldert-Murphey has long been active in supporting progressive causes across southern Illinois as well. In her spare time she serves as a volunteer for the Women’s Safe House in St. Louis, as a Triad High School engineering design and development course mentor and as a First Robotics FTC 8620 team mentor, an ASCE mentor, and working with Math Counts as well. She finds great joy in serving as a role model to young STEM enthusiasts, engineers and entrepreneurs and hopes to continue to inspire all to achieve their own magnificent goals.

Geldert-Murphey is married and resides with her husband of 40 years in Glen Carbon, Ill. Together, they are the proud parents of two biological children and have lovingly raised three additional young men who joined their family as teenagers and have all since grown into thriving adults. They also have two rescue Pitbulls and a rescue three-legged cat.

“The 56th District deserves a senator who is a proven leader and knows how to unceasingly work to deliver results,” Geldert-Murphey added. “Our families, schools, and small businesses deserve a strong voice in Springfield—someone who understands our challenges and will fight for real solutions.”
