Hanley leads in State Senate race fundraising – Evanston Now

State Senate candidate Patrick Hanley of Winnetka raised over $67,000 in the third quarter of 2025, more than twice as much as his opponent, Rachel Ruttenberg of Evanston.

Hanley’s fundraising haul, according to campaign filings with the Illinois State Board of Elections, included over $57,000 in individual contributions, records show.

Hanley also raised $9,500 from PACs and transfers, including a $5,000 donation from State Sen. Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) and $2,500 from State Sen. Laura Murphy (D-Des Plaines).

His fundraising total now tops $182,000, records show. He spent just over $36,000, leaving him with about $124,800 in cash-on-hand heading into October.

Notable contributors to Hanley’s campaign include former Evanston mayoral candidate Jeff Boarini, Wilmette Trustee Justin Sheperd and former State Sen. Heather Steans.

Ruttenberg, the former president and current deputy committeeperson of the Democratic Party of Evanston, raised $32,890 in total last quarter, including $5,000 from the Health Care Council of Illinois PAC and $2,500 from the Duane Morris Government Committee, a Philadelphia-based law firm with offices in Chicago.

Ruttenberg spent $28,680 last quarter, records show, leaving her about $91,400 heading into October.

Some of Ruttenberg’s notable contributors include Ald. Shawn Iles (3rd), former 1st Ward aldermanic candidate Stephen Hackney and former Ald. Eleanor Revelle (7th).

Incumbent State Sen. Laura Fine (D-Glenview) is leaving her seat to run for Congress, looking to succeed longtime Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who’s retiring at the end of her term.
