State Senator Julie A. Morrison, D‑29th District, on July 8, announced her campaign for re-election to the Illinois Senate.
In a news release, Morrison said she is reaffirming her commitment to upholding the values and priorities of the North Suburban communities she has served since 2013.
According to the release, Morrison enters the race with a proven track record of bipartisan problem-solving and community-centered leadership. Morrison is focused on supporting working families, standing up against extremism, and fostering a culture of civility and respect in politics.
“In these deeply divided times, I believe in leading with compassion, respect, and honesty,” Morrison said in the release. “I’m running for re-election to continue advocating for working families, protecting access to affordable healthcare and services, and uniting our communities through common-sense policies that reflect our shared values.”
During her tenure in Springfield, Morrison has championed issues that matter to Illinois families — strengthening public safety, defending reproductive rights, protecting the environment, and investing in infrastructure that better connects communities and keeps them safer, the release said.
Morrison listed her recent accomplishments: supporting legislation to expand mental health resources and reduce healthcare costs; hosting a community advocacy fair that brought together residents and more than two dozen local organizations with a shared purpose of cultivating unity and community support; advancing legislation that would remove PFAs, known as “forever chemicals,” from common household products sold in Illinois; and championing a measure that protects kids from online predators by strengthening the Illinois State Police’s ability to investigate and stop child exploitation.
According to the release, Morrison’s priorities for the next term would be: lifting up working families by fighting for affordable healthcare and accessible child care; securing smart, meaningful investments and infrastructure improvements for the 29th District; keeping costs down, especially for seniors and working and middle-class families; and being a tireless champion for ethical and transparent governance.
