SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KFVS) – Illinois launched a statewide effort to develop a strategy to boost student learning in math.

The strategy starts with a statewide needs assessment survey, which is open from April 16-30.

Teachers, administrators, instructional coaches, Regional Offices of Education, Intermediate Services Centers, and institutions of higher education can participate in the survey by visiting the Illinois State Board of Education’s website.

ISBE will use the survey results to form a plan of action during an invitation-only Numeracy Summit this summer.

State Superintendent of Education Dr. Tony Sanders says “Illinois students deserve the same level of excellence in math instruction as they now receive in literacy. Illinois’ numeracy plan will give schools the tools they need to elevate instruction and unleash students’ math potential.”

The Numeracy initiative follows the state’s successful Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan which returned literacy levels in Illinois to pre-pandemic levels of proficiency.
