SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — "We are seeing the dismantling of our postal service right before our very eyes, and we just cannot allow that to happen," Senator Doris Turner stated Sunday afternoon at the postal worker rally.
Letter carriers and postal workers lined up along Wabash Avenue in Springfield, demanding no change and defending potential threats against privatizing the USPS.
"I mean, it’s an American right to have something delivered to your home no matter where you live…" said Chad Ludwig, a mail carrier. Many mail carriers like Ludwig spoke out against the Trump administration and their plan to dissolve the 250 year old postal service.
Workers say they are worried that if the postal service goes private, prices will increase and services will suffer.
"We have people that are still getting paper checks that rely on the mail," Senator Turner added. "We have individuals that get medicine in the mail!"
These protests are taking place in cities across the country, as postal workers demand justice for their jobs and pay.
"It’s the connection to the outside world!"
