Capitol Connection: Federal prescription drug program could be at risk

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (NEXSTAR) — Prescription Drug Affordability is a huge topic of conversation in the capitol this year, and the Illinois Primary Health Care Association is hoping the state puts a specific protection into their negotiations.

The 340b program allows community health centers that care for low income communities to get prescription drugs at a heavily discounted price, but Cyrus Winnett with the IPHCA said the state needs to put protections in place so pharmaceutical companies can’t exempt their own products.
