In the Illinois House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch Rep. Evans serves as the Chairman of the Labor Committee.

Governor JB Pritzker signed SB 3649 at the Illinois State AFL-CIO 2024 convention, creating the Illinois Worker Freedom of Speech Act which was sponsored by State Rep. Marcus C. Evans, Jr. and Senator Robert Peters.

AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, Speaker Welch, President Harmon, organized labor leaders, my legislative colleagues and others were in attendance.

Now workers will no longer have to fear retaliation when they walk away from unwanted political or religious meetings at work.
