The death of Sonya Massey, who was fatally shot in July by a sheriff’s deputy inside her home, led fellow residents of Springfield, Illinois, to form an ad hoc group dedicated to rooting out systemic racism and helping people like her in the future.
At its Monday night meeting, the Massey Commission homed in on one of its first targets: improving mental health services in their city.
