CHICAGO — Former Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White spread a little warmth amid the cold on Saturday.

On a morning when temperatures were in the teens, the doors of the Jesse White Community Center at Chicago Avenue and Sedgwick opened to anyone who needed a winter coat.

The Jesse White Foundation, Alderman Walter Burnett, and volunteers gave away 500 coats donated by multiple Korean American organizations.

White, who retired after a decades-long career in Illinois politics said his philanthropic endeavors keep him busy as ever.

The giveaway began when Ann Jhin, President of the Korean American friendship network, approached White with the idea fifteen years ago

Now thanks to jhin’s efforts, thousands of people across the midwest have some help surviving the cold.

Visit the Jesse White Foundation’s website for more information on the organization.
