The 25th annual Largest Tomato Contest will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 19, outside The Depot in downtown East Dundee.
Free to enter and open to anyone, there’s a limit of one entry per family. Prizes for first-, second- and third-place are based on weight, officials said in a Facebook post.
Judging starts at noon. If there’s a tie, the winner will be the tomato that was entered first.
The event is part of the weekly Depot Market held at 319 N. River St. every Saturday through Oct. 28. Market hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An annual senior fair sponsored by state Rep. Anna Moeller, D-Elgin, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Dundee Township Park District Adult Activity Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville.
The event will feature resources and information on such topics as health care aid, wellness, low-cost transportation and money-saving ideas, according to a release from Moeller’s office.

Elgin Township’s “What Makes Elgin Township Tick?” event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at 729 S. McLean Blvd. in Elgin.
Attractions will include a touch-a-truck area, Kenyon’s Cow, a bouncy house, face painting, an appearance by Beach Santa, a township trivia game, organization and social service agency booths, and food for sale from Dairy Queen, a township news release said.

The public is invited to attend Elgin’s East Side Neighborhood Garden BLT picnic Sunday, Aug. 20.
The event will feature games from 3:30 to 5 p.m. followed by dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m., according to the garden’s website. Guests are asked to bring a dish to pass. Event organizers will provide bacon, lettuce and tomatoes.

The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin’s two clubhouses are accepting donations to be sent to the Boys & Girls Club of Maui as part of ongoing relief efforts to help people affected by devastating wildfires on the Hawaiian island.
Items being requested include personal hygiene products, diapers, nonperishable food, water, and children’s clothing, a post on the club’s Facebook page said.
