Legislation proposed by 14th District Democratic Congresswoman Lauren Underwood increases the maximum pay for Department of Veterans Affairs nurses and physician assistants. The legislation was included in a funding package signed into law by President Joe Biden.

A news release from Underwood’s Office says the bill is meant to combat a shortage of VA nurses and physician’s assistants.

Underwood says the VA should be able to pay providers competitive salaries to attract and retain top talent and ensure that veterans are receiving the high quality care that they need.
