The director of the Department of Children and Family Services is appealing multiple rulings that found him to be in contempt of court. Violating these orders put director Marc Smith at risk of being fined up to a thousand dollars per day. Last week, a Cook County judge held Smith in contempt of court because DCFS did not follow orders to place two children in proper care. Both children have been staying in psychiatric hospitals past when they were cleared to leave.
