Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder says unless something big changes, he’s planning to seek a third term in 2023.
Up until now, Langfelder had said that he’s “always ready to run,” but hadn’t made any final decision on next year’s race. But appearing live on WMAY, the mayor said that he is planning to run. Winning a third consecutive term would put Langfelder in rare company in Springfield. It’s only been done by John “Buddy” Kapp, who was elected to four consecutive terms from 1931 to 1947.
Former mayors Mike Houston and Nelson Howarth each served three terms, but not all in a row.
