SPRINGFIELD – The governor’s road show – following his Feb. 2 budget address – continued Wednesday in Decatur.

“I urge every local taxing district to take a hard look at reducing property taxes that they impose on their communities. It in fact is imposed at a local level,” said Gov. JB Pritzker during a visit to the Decatur city council chambers. “As revenues have increased at a local level, we all should be thinking about how we can lower property taxes.”

The governor, joined by Decatur mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and State Sen. Doris Turner (D-Springfield), hyped Pritzker’s family-relief agenda, which includes a property tax rebate of up to $300, a suspension of the sales tax on groceries, and a holiday from the inflation-driven increase in the gasoline tax.
