Some new leaders have joined the ranks of the Maine Township Regular Democratic Organization as it prepares for Illinois primary contests on June 28 and the general election on Nov. 8.
Des Plaines Mayor Andrew Goczkowski, who is currently battling COVID-19, was elected president of the party organization last September. Elected secretary was Des Plaines resident Kelly Horvath, a current Maine Township trustee. Other officers are Park Ridge residents Jim Radamacher as deputy committeeman, Norine Murphy of Park Ridge, treasurer, and Jim Wozny of Des Plaines as sergeant-at-arms.
Murphy, a former Des Plaines alderman, confirmed that she will run for reelection as committeeman and as state senator from the 28th district in the June primary. If she wins the June contest for senator, Murphy will run in the November general election to secure either a two or four-year term. She has been a member of the state senate since October 2015 as committeeman since around 2003. It is not yet known whether someone will challenge Murphy in either of the contests.
“We’ve made some strides in Maine Township. It will be exciting to continue the growth,” said Murphy.
Last year, an all Democratic party slate of candidates defeated a Republican ticket of contenders for the offices of Maine Township supervisor, four trustees, highway commissioner and clerk. That has never been accomplished before in Maine.
The new boundaries of the redistricted 28th Senate District move to the east where now it encompasses nearly all of Park Ridge, some Des Plaines, small sections of Leyden and Norwood Park townships, but none of Mount Prospect nor Arlington Heights, explained Murphy.
