Illinois school districts will soon be graded on their efforts toward equity

Starting next year, the Illinois State Board of Education will rank districts based on how equitable they are, meaning how well they set up students with different circumstances to get the same outcomes. The goal of this is to level the playing field. Education officials say the public school system here in Illinois has significant gaps in achievement between different groups of students, and this new ranking system will give districts a better understanding of how to close those gaps.
