The Illinois Housing Development Authority has announced that it will reopen the Illinois Rental Payment Program next month. Ottawa Economic Development Director Dave Noble says the program had expired but has been reopened for people to apply. He says the portal will reopen December 6th.
Noble says the money is for people who are having trouble paying their rent because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He says that person has to rent a property through a landlord and either of them can apply for the grant.
The IHDA says that since May they’ve paid out near $540 million on behalf of renters experiencing pandemic-related hardships.
Noble also says that people can search online IL rent assistance which will take you to the IHDA website. He says people can also call the Tri-County Opportunities Council and speak with Jill at 815-625-7830.
