PEKIN (HOI) – The City of Pekin hopes by the start of next year to have its first public works director in more than a decade.
The city council Monday night voted unanimously to fill the position, which Mayor Mark Luft said is the key feature in a reorganization of the department.
The base salary, not including benefits, is $100,000 to $115,000, according to Luft.
For the past 10 to 12 years, the mayor said the city manager and city engineer have performed the public works’ duties. He said the city manager and city engineer now have to focus their energies dealing with the various issues involving economic growth happening in Pekin.
