PEKIN (HOI) — A third person from the UAW Senior Center in Pekin is now fighting Legionnaires’ Disease.
That resident was sent to the hospital on Friday, October 2nd, but they have since been released.
This comes a little less than a week after we learned of two other cases of Legionnaires’ at the facility.
In those cases, one person was hospitalized, and the other died.
UAW Senior Center manager Donald Bly says the facility has installed shower filters and restricted other uses of water.
They’re also working to get a new filtration system and more water storage, but Bly says that could take up to two months.
"We’re trying to get people back to living as normal a life as we possibly can, and it’s a slow process," Bly explained, "it’s nothing that’s going to happen overnight."
For now, residents at the Pekin facility are getting bottled water for drink and use.
