A nonpartisan organization recently named U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski a “Fiscal Hero of 2020.”
Each year, Campaign to Fix the Debt, a project affiliated with the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, recognizes members of Congress who have been “leaders in the fight to address the nation’s long-term debt and restore fiscal responsibility,” according to a news release.
“We have a responsibility not to leave future generations straddled with massive federal debt,” Lipinski, D-Western Springs, said in the release. “The lack of political will in addressing our fiscal health is a serious problem that has prevented us from effectively responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and runs the risk of leaving us vulnerable in future crises.”
Lipinski also touted his fight against “wasteful spending” while still defending federal programs such as Social Security and Medicare.
Last year, he joined other members of the moderate House Blue Dog Caucus to support legislation to add a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
He also advocated this year for measures to rein in federal spending in COVID-19 relief legislation.
Lipinski has served in Congress since 2005 but lost his primary election in March.
