ROUND LAKE BEACH – With many small businesses facing increased hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting the new Business Interruption Grants program, which will distribute grants to businesses negatively impacted by the pandemic.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to negatively impact our community’s health and financial well-being, small businesses are hurting more and more,” Yingling said in a news release. “Small businesses are a vital part of the economy of our communities. Keeping them from shutting down during these difficult times is imperative.”

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will be administering BIG grants to businesses that have experienced losses or interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant amount varies based on business type, with grants up to $10,000 for barbershops and salons and grants up to $20,000 for restaurants, bars and gyms.

For information or to apply, visit DCEO’s BIG page at www2.illinois.gov/dceo/SmallBizAssistance/Pages/C19DisadvantagedBusGrants.aspx.

“Small businesses who have served our communities for years should not have to close down because of a situation beyond their control,” Yingling said. “Our small businesses need relief now, and I highly encourage struggling business owners that have been negatively impacted by this pandemic to apply for these grants.”
