PEORIA (HOI) — The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District has received $10,259,898 — one of three CARES Act public transportation grants for urban areas in Illinois, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced.
According to a release, the GPMTD, along with transit districts in Rock Island County and Rockford, received funds totaling more than $28.3 million.
“As our country begins to rebuild from the impact of COVID-19, supporting our transportation infrastructure is critical,” Congresswoman Bustos said. “The CARES Act took bold steps to bring relief to our communities"
"Now delivered, these federal dollars will help Northwest and Central Illinois begin to recover from this public health crisis and will help our communities continue to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.”
The funds will be used for operational expenses, bus purchases, facility maintenance, protective equipment, communications equipment and other necessary expenses in order to respond to and recover from COVID-19.
