“Teachers and students are dealing with a situation they could have never planned for, so it’s our responsibility to ensure they get the support they need,” Bertino-Tarrant said in the release. “Our educators must be equipped with the right tools to give students a quality education – even if they do so from a distance.”

The new law also allows for any grade of "pass," "credit," or "satisfactory" attained during the pandemic to be transferred and to fulfill prerequisites for courses at the college level. It also modified income requirements for a state education grant program.

“Investing in our children is one of the best investments we can make,” Bertino-Tarrant said. “I’m proud to have carried this package through the Senate and on to the governor’s office.”

Pritzker also touted the passage of the law and said the state is doing all it can to ensure quality education.

"Educators and administrators are doing what they do best, helping students continue to learn, providing meals and looking out for the well-being of our children and families," Pritkzer said in a news release.
