ELMHURST, IL — A DuPage County Board member from Elmhurst is taking heat for "liking" a Facebook comment that asserted people won’t stop rioting until a few of them "are shot dead," according to a story in the Daily Herald.

Sean Noonan, a Republican, said this week that he never meant to endorse the comment, according to the newspaper. A resident posted the comment to Noonan’s personal Facebook page; Noonan has since "unliked" the comment, removed it and apologized for the "mistake I made" on May 30, the Daily Herald said.

"I condemn those words in the strongest possible terms," he said during this week’s DuPage County Board meeting, according to the Daily Herald.

The newspaper said the post on Noonan’s page read, "Sean, as awful as it sounds, until a few rioters are shot dead, and their bodies left in the street for the wolves, there’s no message law abiding people and the officers that protect them can send to these terrorists to instill fear and good behavior in them …"

Noonan is a Bloomingdale police officer and a former special investigator in the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
