State Senator Patrick Joyce has introduced a new bill aimed at reducing property taxes.
Senate Bill 3392 increases state payments toward the Local Government Distributive Fund from 6 percent to 10 percent, with the hopes that the support will help local municipalities lower their property tax rates. The house version of the bill was originally introduced by State Rep.
Anthony DeLuca. In 2011, the Illinois Legislature reduced the LGDF fund from 10 percent to 6 percent. Joyce said in a statement that as he travels through his district the common theme he hears from local governments is that without the State’s help they are forced to raise property taxes to balance their budgets.
Joyce said he hopes that by restoring the LGDF rate to 10 percent, municipalities will be able to remove strain from local tax payers. Reporting for WCSJ and WJDK News, I’m Brandon Grossi.
