Pursuing widespread ethical reforms to clean up state government, State Rep. Marty Moylan (D-55th) recently introduced a bill prohibiting legislators from having any gaming related financial interests.

“Legislators should not have any conflicting priorities when they are serving their residents,” Moylan said. “Having financial interests in gaming-related activities gives legislators incentive to vote in certain ways, and that cannot be allowed.”
The Moylan-introduced House Bill 4422 states that legislators may not receive any income from any proprietorship they may have in any gaming-related interests. It also would require any legislator currently holding any gaming-related interests to divest themselves from said interests as soon as practicable.
“The concern of our legislators should be the benefit of those they serve, not the gaming industry or their own self-interest,” Moylan said. “Last session we began a campaign to enact ethical reform across our state government. This bill will help root out corruption and move those efforts forward.”
