Springfield, IL – Illinois Senators held a moment of silence Wednesday for former State Trooper Greg Reives, who was killed last Friday. Reives and two other Troopers were shot inside a cigar lounge in Lisle, Illinois.

Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford recognized Reives as a role model for many who went to Proviso East High School. Lightford says she had been friends with Reives since they were in Kindergarten. She says it feels like she has lost a brother.

"When he was in the Illinois State Police Academy, I was working on my Master’s here at the University of Illinois at Springfield," Lightford said. "I was so honored to have the opportunity to attend his graduation 25 years ago."

Lightford says her community lost a hero and inspiration for others. She also wished the two injured troopers a safe and speedy recovery.

Police said a 51-year-old woman shot the men before turning the gun on herself. Officers noted the woman and victims were "acquaintances."
