State funds for vulnerable populations to support the construction of new Peoria supportive housing
New
PEORIA (WEEK) – Nine communities around Illinois have been approved for the creation or restoration of permanent supportive housing units – including Peoria.
The Illinois Housing Development Board of Directors approved over $42 million in funding for the creation or restoration of 172 units of affordable housing provided in tandem with individualized supportive services, according to a press release.
Madison Apartments II will be 24 new supportive housing units for residents who are at-risk for homelessness.
Supportive services will be provided by Phoenix Community Development Services.
The developments will serve individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, households headed by persons living with a disability and residents who require supportive services to access and maintain stable housing.
“Everyone deserves equitable access to housing, healthcare and the support networks they need to live successful lives that are integrated in the community,” IHDA Executive Director Kristin Faust said. “Supportive housing is a proven, cost-effective solution that ensures our most vulnerable residents live with stability and autonomy, and this investment will make important headway to provide a wider range of community-based housing options for Illinoisans to choose from.”
