The sponsor of a bill that would help control insulin costs for diabetics is touring the state gathering support for his bill. A person with Type 1 Diabetes spends, on average, about $475 a month for insulin. That’s led to people risking their lives to cut costs, according to State Senator Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill).
Senate Bill 667 limits the copay for a 30-day supply to $100. Only one other state – Colorado – has such a law. The bill may come up in the Fall Veto Session. Manar spoke to a crowd of onlookers Monday morning at Alton’s Senior Services Plus.

The legislation has garnered the support of several advocacy organizations, including the American Diabetes Association, Illinois State Medical Society, Illinois Pharmacists Association and AARP.
